Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 29, 2026
TeachMeHowToCamp.com is operated by Ryan Thomas. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site or sign up for our emails, what we do with it, and what choices you have.
The short version: we collect your email address so we can send you camping guidance you asked for. We don't sell your information. You can leave anytime.
Information We Collect
Information you give us directly. When you sign up for our email list, download a free resource, fill out a contact form, or sign up at an in-person event, we collect:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Anything else you choose to tell us in a message or form field
If you buy a digital product or book a service, payment is handled by a third-party processor. We receive confirmation of the transaction and your contact details. We never see or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, ours records basic technical information when you visit:
- IP address
- Browser and device type
- Pages you viewed and how long you stayed
- The site or link that referred you
This comes from our website platform and analytics tools, described below.
How We Use It
We use the information to:
- Send you the emails, guides, and downloads you signed up for
- Answer your questions and respond to service inquiries
- Deliver and support anything you purchase
- Understand which articles and resources people find useful
- Keep the site working and secure
- Meet our legal obligations
We don't use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we don't build advertising profiles.
Who We Share It With
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the business, and only as much as they need:
- Wix, our website host and platform
- MailChimp, which sends our emails and stores our subscriber list
- Wix, which reports how the site is used
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, if we need to protect someone's safety, or if the business is sold or transferred. If ownership ever changes, we'll say so here first.
Cookies and Tracking
Our site uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the site functioning, remember your preferences, and measure traffic. Third parties, including our analytics and hosting providers, may set cookies through our site.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work correctly if you do.
Do Not Track. Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. There's no industry agreement on how to respond to it, so we don't currently respond to Do Not Track signals. We also don't allow third parties to collect information about your activity across other websites through our site.
Your Choices
Email. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Use it and you're off the list. You can also email us and we'll remove you.
Access, correction, and deletion. Email us at ryan@teachmehowtocamp.com and we'll tell you what information we have about you, correct it, or delete it. We'll respond within 30 days. We may need to verify who you are first.
California residents. California's "Shine the Light" law lets you request information about personal information we've shared with third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We don't share information that way, but you're welcome to ask.
How Long We Keep It
We keep your information as long as you're on our email list or as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it. Business and tax records may be kept longer where the law requires. When we no longer need your information, we delete it.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including the security features built into our hosting and email platforms. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee against every possible breach. If a breach affects your information, we'll notify you as required by law.
Children
This site is meant for adults. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Camping is a family activity, so parents and guardians are welcome here. Please sign up with your own email address, not your child's.
Links to Other Sites
We link to gear retailers, campground reservation systems, agencies like NOLS and the National Park Service, and other outside resources. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we aren't responsible for their practices. Read them before handing over your information.
Changes to This Policy
We'll update this policy when our practices change. When we do, we'll change the effective date at the top. For significant changes, we'll post a notice on the site or email subscribers directly. Please check back occasionally.
