About
Our Mission
We empower you to feel safe outdoors, to feel comfortable outdoors, and to feel like you belong outdoors.
TeachMeHowToCamp.com exists to make the outdoors feel like it was made for everyone — because it was.
We’re here for the person who struggles to set up a tent, who didn’t grow up camping, who’s looked at a trail map and felt completely lost. No judgment. No gatekeeping. Just honest, practical guidance from someone who’s been out there for decades and genuinely wants to bring you along.
The outdoors isn’t a club with a dress code. It’s yours. We’ll help you get there.
About Ryan

Camping has been part of my life for generations. I grew up in a family where tents, trail maps, and campfires were just normal, and I’ve been outdoors for about forty years.
But I know that’s not how it starts for everyone.
A lot of people didn’t grow up camping. Nobody showed them how to set up a tent, read a map, or feel confident outside. And too often, outdoor culture makes that feel embarrassing when it shouldn’t.
That’s why I built TeachMeHowToCamp.com.
For much of my life, one of my favorite things has been helping first-timers feel comfortable outdoors. I instructed skills classes part-time in the Marines and have led mentorship programs at work since, so I've had a lot of practice teaching people who feel like they're starting from zero. I've taken friends, coworkers, and kids on their first camping and backpacking trips. That's included plenty of people who never thought they were "outdoorsy" enough to belong there.
I’m not a survivalist, and I’m not here to make you suffer to prove anything. I’m here to help you feel safe, comfortable, and welcome outside, with honest, practical guidance and zero judgment.
For what it’s worth: I bring four decades of camping experience, eight years in the Marine Corps, and wilderness first aid certification. But what matters most is simple: I love helping people discover that the outdoors is theirs too.
